The legacy of administration and governance, rooted in over 1700 years of history, found new expression in the political career of Kamaal Farooqui. With over four decades in politics and a ministerial rank in the Maharashtra Government, he has been instrumental in shaping policies that drive social welfare and equal opportunities to communities. His leadership extends across key governmental bodies and prominent political organisations, reflecting a steadfast commitment to justice, fairness, and inclusive development.
Following in his footsteps, his sons, Barrister Umar Farooqui and Ali Farooqui, continue to uphold and advance the family’s values in both public and private spheres.
Having been immersed in public life from a young age and shadowing his father, Umar Farooqui formally entered politics at 17 and has since held significant organisational and governmental roles. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales as a Barrister by the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. He also leads ‘Taalim Dilao Tehreek’ (Mission Education), an initiative founded by Kamaal Farooqui and the late Dr. Rafiq Zakaria, which focuses on expanding higher education opportunities for marginalized youth, particularly in rural Maharashtra, with a strong emphasis on accessibility and inclusion. He has successfully represented and voiced various public issues, influencing policymaking, and also fostering international collaborations and dialogues between political and business communities in India and the UK.
Ali Farooqui, is skilled in policymaking and political philosophy focusing on the impact of societal issues, cultural preservation and administration. His contributions include establishing the first-ever bilateral regional partnership between Manchester and Maharashtra, aimed at fostering collaboration in skills training, education, and trade.
His efforts have played a key role in strengthening regional ties and creating new opportunities for youth and professionals. He also works in preserving culture and heritage
Education has remained a cornerstone of the Farooqui family’s philanthropic and social endeavors. Recognizing it as the most powerful tool for empowerment, they have placed a particular emphasis on ensuring access to quality education for all, helping the young minds who lack opportunities break barriers and achieve their full potential. By championing educational initiatives and advocating for progressive policies, the family continues to drive meaningful change in Maharashtra and beyond.
