Barrister Umar Kamaal Farooqui

Umar Kamaal Farooqui, a London-trained Barrister from Lincoln’s Inn, represents the next generation of leadership in the Farooqui family. With a background in law and business management, he has been actively involved in politics and public policy since 2010, advocating for social justice, minority rights, and economic empowerment.

Following his family’s tradition of governance, Umar recently joined the Indian National Congress, aligning with its commitment to secularism and national integrity. His political vision goes beyond power—he champions issue-based politics, focusing on the upliftment of Muslims and Dalits in Maharashtra. Inspired by his great-grandfather, Qazi Badiuddin, and his father, Kamaal Farooqui, he remains dedicated to justice and governance.

Beyond politics, Umar leads Mission Education, an initiative founded by his father and Dr. Rafiq Zakaria, to bring marginalized students into the mainstream education system. He is also a key figure in India-UK relations, playing a pivotal role in the Manchester-Maharashtra partnership and re-establishing Congress-Labour ties in the UK.
